الملخص الإنجليزي

A novel organically modified silica materials have been prepared by sol-gel processing.

The new agent was prepared from the incorporation of the tris-(2-aminoethylamine) molecule into the epoxide group of the precursor 3-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane to produce the new silylating agent denoted as SiGPTMSTAEA.

Upon hydrolysis of SiGPTMSTAEA with water using HCl as a catalyst followed by the addition of the monomers 3-(diethoxymethylsilyl) propylamine (DEMPA) and (3- aminopropyl)triethoxysilane (APTES).

The hybrid matrix SiGPTMSTAEA/ DEMPA/ APTES mixed in the proper mole ratio in ethanol/water produces a sol that best meets our specifications.

Hydrolysis of Si-OR (R = CH3, C2H5) to Si-OH is followed by condensation reactions, a Si-O-Si skeleton starts to build up.

After drying, an optically transparent sol-gel glass was obtained.

The special grafted organic functional groups which are now covalently bonded to the silica sol-gel glass were expected to have high affinity to complex metal ions.

The produced sol-gel glass was porous and almost all the covalently linked organic substituents were active in the pore space and can now be used as sites to complex poisonous metal ions.

The synthesized sol-gel material (resin) have been used as a filter to remove metal cations (Pb2+ and Cd2+) from water.

To study complexation/adsorption; the batch method has been employed, in which a known weight of the sorbent resin was mixed with a known concentration of desired metal ion.

In order to attain the maximum metal ion complexation/adsorption capacity; these organically modified silica filters have been optimized to the optimum separation/preconcentration conditions of analytes, including effect of pH, shaking time (equilibration time), resin particle size, capacity of the solid resin and effect of coexisting ions, afterwards, the solution was filtered.

The amount of metal ion complexed/adsorbed has been determined by the difference between the initial concentration in aqueous solution and that found in the supernatant, uing a ICP-MS.

In all cases, application to reference materials and to real environmental samples have been investigated.

The synthesized SiGPTMSTAEA has been characterized by FTIR, NMR, Uv-vis absorption and elemental analysis.
