Mapping soil basicity using ordinary kriging interpolation in Haddaf and Wad-Elfadul blocks of Gezira scheme, Sudan

Towards introducing precision agricultural technology; a geostatistical method (ordinary kriging) was used to produce thematic soil maps representing soil basicity (pH) maps for Haddaf and Wad-Elfadul blocks of Gezira Scheme.

The produced soil pH maps were prepared from 212 observation points spreading over 25236 ha.

The root mean square error of the prediction was 0.1273 and 0.1368, while the mean standardized error was 0.001 and 0.008 for both surface and sub-surface layers, respectively.

There is a clear tendency of pH increase in subsurface layer.

Large areas with relatively low basicity were only noted in the surface.

Each range of basicity has less area in surface compared to subsurface.

Area North West of the blocks under study (3423 ha) has higher pH values ranging from 7.8 to 8.1.

This area is left out as fallow.
