Locally available shale clay was used for synthesis of NaY zeolite (type FAU X).

The synthesized and the modified zeolite materials were characterized using IR, XRD, XRF, and SEM.

The characterization results showed that, acid and alkaline modifications of the synthesized zeolites produced types M1 (FAU Y) and M2 (FAU X) with different Si/Al ratios respectively.Different Zeolite crystallites were prepared in a microwave oven for 5-20 min and characterized.

The results were compared with those prepared by conventional hydrothermal crystallization for more than 24 h.

Analysis showed that, zeolite synthesized by microwave heating technique produces NaX zeolite.
