الملخص الإنجليزي

The urban population growth, in absolute numbers in Jordan, and the increment in vehicles numbers has affected the travel demand on Jordan Streets even though the infrastructure is too poor, this led to increase the problems like congestion, pollution, automobiles crashes, fuel wastage etc.

The main objective of this study is to apply the transportation demand management (TDM) policies to reduce the traffic flow in urban areas and improve The LOS.

But if TDM strategies are not successful to improve the LOS; a group of a combination between TDM and Transportation system management (TSM) strategies were conducted.

Where the TSM Concept is refers to any group of actions that increase the capacity of the roads network.

A typical signalized intersection in Amman was chosen as a case study, (Al-Bnayat Intersection) which has a huge congestion at peak hours.

Synchro 8 software was using to analyze the intersection conditions.

Among the conclusions of this study, a significant reduction in delay and fuel consumption was measured, but there is no real enhancement in LOS.

The LOS was improved only at reduction of volume by 20% and increase capacity with 6 lanes on each approach for existing conditions, also at this case the percentage of saving in fuel and delay was observed to be around 64.8% and 63.6% respectively after 5 years.

Finally some recommendations were listed, and some strategies of TDM that might be so important on Jordan Streets were recommended.

Key words: Traffic Demand Management (TDM), Transportation System Management HCM , Synchro.8, Evaluation of TDM, Developing Country, Urban Street, Jordan.
