Studying and working in the other financial firms and the financial sector : working in investment companies

As-Salamu `Alaykum, I want to ask you : can we buy or sell mutual funds in North America when you do not know these big companies get loans or dealing with other companies are interest based but their main stream business in Halal ? second can a Muslim work for investment company to invest money in mutual funds.
