Opening interest-based account : having a bank account in the West and earning interest

السؤال

Is about putting money in a (Western) bank. What does Islam and Muslim scholars have to say about putting money in a bank and receiving interest from it ? Is this what is called in Islam al Riba ? Jazacumu Allah Khairan. Notes : in the western world you cannot put money in a bank without receiving profit from it each year. Moreover there is no other way to save money except in a bank
