Opening interest-based account : can you put your savings in CDs ?

السؤال

I am a married student with a child living in the US with no source of income. I have an amount in the bank to support me and my wife until we both finish our education. I wanted to ask if I was allowed to put some of the money in an interest bearing certificate of deposit, "CD" or interest bearing account in order to help me make some income while I am still jobless. The CD's can be for periods of one to twelve months, the longer the time, the higher the return. Please advise me and Jazakumu Allah Kull Khair. Mazen Notes : the money has been in the bank for a while. We do not use for any purpose other than spending and paying the tuition. If you have any questions, I will answer them.
