Bankruptcy, business dispute : [creditors’ debts during crisis]

Dear Dr. Monzer, Assalamu Alaykum wa Rahmatullah Wa Barakatuh, Due to the financial crisis in the US, my company lost great business and I cannot pay back the creditors as they owe me huge sum of money that I cannot bear. In addition, it was not my fault as the financial crisis was uncontrollable. What is the solution ? Should I declare bankruptcy and what does declaring bankruptcy mean ?
