الملخص الإنجليزي

Complex sentences are used most often by writers as a syntactic device to correlate the elements of their tests.

If the writer's aim is to present complex ideas or experiences, then complex sentences are preferred as they provide additional information which is of help to the reader in understanding what the text is.

However subordinate-clauses (su-cl) make the reader ready to receive the next sentence, and they help in expressing the relationship among the characters as well as the idiosyncratic features of each character.

This study has set itself to investigate how this syntactic device, that is, Complex sentence (or embedding sentences) is used by two of the famous playwrights; Tom Stoppard and John Osborn.

Each of these dramatists used complex sentences for achieving his own purposes.

It aims: 1-Examining how complex sentences are used in "Jumpers" and "Look Back in Anger".

2-Comparing the purposes behind the use of complex sentences by the two playwrights in order to find out whether this structure is evenly employed or whether it is an idiosyncracy of one of the writers.

The study hypothesized that complex sentences are employed equally in "Jumpers" and "Look Back in Anger", and that the use of complex sentences depends on the type of character.

In order to achieve the aims and hypotheses of the study certain procedures have been applied, these are:
