الملخص الإنجليزي

A storm drain system is a drainage structure designed to prevent the accumulation and retention of water on highways and other surfaces and to prevent the discharge of accumulated waters onto abutting adjacent lands.

The first step to be considered in the design of a storm drainage system is the determination of the runoff.

The Rational Method is the method that applies to the types of watersheds that are to be handled by storm drains.

In order to use Rational Method , The rainfall Intensity- Duration-Frequency (IDF) relationships , must be determined, for the construction of IDF curves, a historical series of the maximum rainfall intensities at a higher time resolution is required.

Such rainfall data are available only from a limited number of rain-gauging stations; the most accessible rainfall data are 1-day precipitation totals from a denser network of non-recording rain gauge from which These relationships have been generated.

The objective of highway drainage design is to minimize problems which occur due to floods by collecting runoff in gutters and intercepting it using storm water inlets that subsequently direct flow to subsurface conveyance systems, culverts, or ditches.

In this study a mathematical model for simulate the highway drainage control is developed .This model determine the IDF Equation , inlet spacing and pipe diameters and we study the effect of longitudinal slope and gutter cross slope on inlet spacing and interception capacity .

iii The most important conclusions of this study are: maximum intensities occur at short duration with large variations with return period, while with long duration there is no much difference in intensities with return period, minimum inlet spacing is estimate at longitudinal equal 0.5% and gutter cross slope equal 2 %, inlet spacing is constant for gutter cross slopes 3.5%, design pipe diameter for all segment is equal to minimum pipe size 300mm
