الملخص الإنجليزي

A novel design of a switched-mode operational amplifier circuit is presented in this work.

The aim of this work is to show that utilizing the switching mode technique in operational amplifiers helps to address the voltage swing limitations and distortion issues that the conventional operational amplifiers suffer from.

The switched-mode operational amplifier consists of two basic blocks.

The first stage is a typical operational transconductance amplifier which provides a limited output voltage swing especially in scaled technologies and reduced supply voltages.

The second stage is a pulse width modulator which achieves the operation of transforming the output signal information from voltage to time domain.

This transformation results in increasing the voltage swing and providing near rail-to-rail operation.

Multi-phase pulse width modulation is employed in order to attenuate the distortion components of the pulse width modulation.

The multi-phase operation is achieved by connecting multiple single-phase switched-mode operational amplifiers in parallel and applying phase shifted waveforms to them.

The proposed 10-phase switched-mode operational amplifier circuit was designed, implemented and simulated using Synopsys transistor level Custom Designer software that includes Hspice tools using the state of the art 28nm technology node.

It operates using a 0.5V supply voltage and a 500MHz pulse width modulation frequency.

Its power consumption is equal to 1.5mW while achieving a 740mV peak-to-peak differential output voltage swing with -43.9dB total harmonic distortion and 44.7dB spurious free dynamic range when operated using a 1MHz input signal frequency
