الملخص الإنجليزي

In this thesis a theoretical study of the electrical energy harvesting is made as a result of bending nanowires consisting of a number of substances.

Detailed theoretical models are derived to calculate the electrical energy harvested from a number of materials viz ZnO, GaN, BaTiO3, PZT, ZnMgO and GaAlN NWs having a number of geometrical structures viz rectangular, circular, hexagonal and tapered cross – sections.

Theoretical expressions for calculating the total charge that can be collected by the two side surfaces and the capacitance of the NW for each shape are derived too.

The amount of electrical energy generated depends on many properties of each substance such as Young's modulus, stiffness coefficient, piezoelectric coefficient, dielectric constant, moment of inertia and Poisson's ratio.

All these coefficients and constants are temperature dependent, so theoretical relations are used to calculate the effect of temperature on all of them hence on the generated electrical energy.

Nanowire length and width or diameter and applied force to the NW have a clear effect on the generated electrical energy too.

Variations of the generated electrical energy within the temperature range (0-100) oC have been calculated through the evaluation of the variation of Young's modulus, stiffness coefficient, etc.

through the same range of temperature the effect of pyroelectric effect are calculated too.

A comparison between the result of the generated electrical energy is in the cases: (i) no effect of temperature is taken into account (ii) the effect of temperature only on the pyroelectric coefficient is taken into account and (iii) the effect of temperature on the properties of the NW is taken into account without the effect of pyroelectric coefficient.

the results obtained are compared with the work of other researches.

The charges collected on the surfaces of the NW and its capacitances are calculated under the effect of applied force, length and width or diameter of the NW, and all the mentioned properties of each NW.
