High progesterone estradiol ratio on the day of HCG administration and pregnancy outcome in women undergoing ICSI by GnRH agonist cycle

Objective : The objective of this study to evaluate high progesterone / estradiol (P/E2) ratio on the day of HCG administration and pregnancy outcome in women undergoing ICSI by GnRH agonist cycle.

Patients and Methods; this study had been carried out in infertility unit at C-PLAS Hospital at Sana’a, Yemen during the period from July 2012 to July 2013.

The study was performed on 119 infertile women undergoing ICSI by GnRH agonist protocol.

These women were divided into 2 groups according to P/E2 ratio on the day of HCG administration.

Group1 with low P/E2 ratio (P/E2 ratio ≤ 1) and Group2 with high P/E2 ratio (P/E2 ratio >1).

Results : Low P/E2 ratio on the day of HCG administration significantly accompanied by increased number of oocyte retrieval but insignificantly increased the implantation rate and pregnancy rate.

Conclusion: high P/E2 ratio on the day of HCG administration significantly accompanied by decreased the number of oocyte retrieval but insignificantly decreased the implantation rate and pregnancy rate and has no effect on fertilization rate.
