الملخص EN

Objective : The purpose of this study was to evaluate the impact of pre-emptive analgesia using incisional site infiltration of lidocaine as compared to saline solution on post-operative pain control in patients undergoing cesarean section.

Methods : two hundred women undergoing cesarean deliveries were randomized in two groups : group I (10 ml of 2% lidocaine) lidocaine group , group II (0.9% sodium chloride) control group was injected at the abdominal incision prior to the performance of the cesarean section (CS).

Postoperative pain treatment consisted of IM analgesia (declofenac sodium).

Pain intensity was self-evaluated with visual analog scale.

Data were analyzed by SPSS software version 11.5 and P-value <0.05 was considered significant.

Results: women in lidocaine group perceived a significant reduction in postoperative pain, significantly less analgesic dose requirement in lidocaine than in control group as well as P value.

Conclusion : preemptive analgesia with lidocaine infiltration at the incision is a simple and efficient mode with few side effects that may reduce pain and analgesic requirements in women undergoing caesarean section.
