الملخص الإنجليزي

The present study was carried out to determine the effects of different seed priming treatments and irrigation water salinity on germination, vegetative growth, leaf biochemical contents and mineral composition of on ''Dafnis'' tomato seeds.

Two experiments were conducted.

In the first experiment, seeds of ''Dafnis'' tomato were exposed to six seed priming treatments (100mM NaCl, 300mM NaCl, 10% PEG, 20% PEG, 10ppm GA3, and 30ppm GA3) and unprimed (dry seeds) for 12 hours.

The results showed that seed priming with 30ppm GA3 significantly improved germination index, coefficient of velocity, plumule and radical length, seedling vigor index and seedling fresh weight.

The second pot experiment was conducted in a partially controlled greenhouse.

The seeds were primed with the previous reagents used in the first experiment.

Then, they were irrigated with 0, 150, 300 or 450mMNaCl.

The results revealed that salinity significantly reduced most vegetative growth parameters.

Chlorophyll content was significantly decreased with increasing irrigation water salinity.

Leaf proline content significantly increased when seeds where primed with 100mM NaCl and irrigated with 300mM NaCl water.

Increasing irrigation water salinity significantly increased shoot chloride concentration.

Moreover, potassium, ascorbate peroxidase activity and sodium significantly increased when the seeds were primed with PEG under low, medium and high osmotic stresses, respectively
