This study was carried out in the poultry farm of Animal Resources Dept.

/ College of Agriculture / University of Baghdad during the period from 22/ 10/2009 to 22/ 4/2010 to investigate the effect of adding different levels and sources of oils rich with omeg-3 to egg laying hens diets on some biochemical traits of blood plasma .

One hundred sixty Lohmann Brown laying hens at 20 weeks of age were used in this study.

At 22 weeks of age, the hens were individually weighed and randomly distributed into ten treatments and each treatment with two replicates (8 hens / replicate).

The treatments were as follows: T1, T2 and T3 included the addition of 0.5, 0.75 and 1% of sunflower oil respectively, treatments T4, T5 and T6 included the addition of 1, 1.

5 and 2% of omega-3 fish oil, respectively , while the treatments T7, T8 and T9 included the addition of 0.5, 0.75 and 1% flaxseed oil respectively; and T10 used as control for comparison.

Results revealed that the treatments included the addition of omega-3 source(T9,T8,T7,T6,T5,T4) were significantly (p≤0.01) lower levels of total serum cholesterol and serum triglycerides compared with control , while the treatments T6 ,T8 and T9 were significantly the lower level of low density lipoprotein (LDL) , but significant increase in the level of high density lipoprotein HDL (p≤0.01).

Treatments of flaxseed oil and fish oil were the best content of unsaturated fatty acids(Omega –3 ) compared with the other treatments diets include control treatment diet.
