الملخص EN

Theoretical investigation is performed to study the effect of the presence of steel bars at compression zone which are provided originally to hold stirrups and its contribution to the bending moment capacity of singly reinforced concrete sections.

The study considers beam with specific geometry (b = 300mm, d = 442mm) and properties (fy = 420 MPa & f 'c = 21 MPa) with tensile steel reinforcement ratio of (0.0111).

The investigation arises that the enhancement of about (1.37% - 3.47%) in bending capacity may occur.

Also, there is a possibility to decrease the amount of tension reinforcement by (1.64% - 3.16%).

The idea presented here may be useful to be considered if the original design is found slightly not sufficient.
