Hepatoprotective activity of albizia lebbeck flowers extract in CCL4 induced liver toxicity mice

Protective effects of methanolic and aqueous extract of Albizia lebbeck flowers were investigated against carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) induced hepatic damage in male mice.

Hepatic damage was induced by injecting intraperitonial doses of 4 ml (50%v/v) CCl4 in olive oil.

In protective studies, plant extract (100, 200 and 400 mg/kg body weight) was given before hepatic damage.

Male mice exposed to CCl4 exhibited a potential elevation of serum AST ALT and ALP activities, bilirubin, and an increase in MDA.

On the other hand, noticeable drop in GSH serum content and serum total protein, albumin and SOD, GPx and CAT as well Vitamin E and C were recorded.

The histopathological studies in the liver of mice also supported that MAFE markedly reduced the toxicity of CCl4 and preserved the histoarchitecture of the liver tissue to near normal.

Thus, the results suggest that MAFE acts as a potent hepatoprotective agent against CCl4 induced hepatotoxicity in mice.-
