Molecular characterization of the recent Egyptian isolates of infectious bursal disease virus

The present work was carried out for isolation and molecular characterization of the most recent causative agents of infectious bursal disease virus (IBDV) circulating in El-Gharbia and El-Behara governorates.

Bursa samples were collected from vaccinated chickens showing enlarged and hemorrhagic bursae located in 11flocks distributed all over the two governorates.

Trials of virus isolation were carried out through infection of ten-day-old embryonated SPF eggs via the dropped chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) route and African green monkey kidney cell line (Vero) followed by virus detection by RT-PCR and characterization of the obtained isolates.

Confirmation of virus isolation was assayed by virus neutralization test (VNT) and direct fluorescent antibody technique (FAT).

PCR amplification of the 472 bpof vp2 gene gave appositive amplicon.

Phylogenetic analysis revealed that the obtained strains related to the Egyptian strains of IBDV and showed 92.8 % identity to Bursa –Vac vaccinal strain.
