The assessment of some physical and chemical parameters of drinking water quality in Al-Wahda and Al-Qadisiyah treatment plants at Baghdad, Iraq

The study aims to assess the physical and chemical of drinking water quality for public usage depend on Iraqi specification.

The portable samples collected from Al-Wahda and Al-Qadisiyah water treatment plants and the areas covered each plants, sites distributed as the farthest from the plants, three replicates seasonally (summer, autumn, winter and spring) from July 2015 to April 2016.

The mean value for each measured parameters ranged air and water temperature 11.5-44ºC and 10-35ºC respectively, pH 7.15-8.55, EC 713.5-1108 μs/cm, turbidity 2.2-6.4 NUT, TDS 401-759 mg/l, total hardness 251.5-401.5 mg/l, free residual chlorine1.0-3.5 ppm, chloride 47.5-108.5mg/l, nitrate 1.1-8.15 mg/l, sulphate 130.5-276.5 mg/l, calcium 53.5-98.5 mg/l, magnesium 18.5-53.5 mg/l.

The results obtained in present study were within the permissible limits for Iraqi criteria and standards for drinking water.

Except the turbidity in some site that exceeding the permissible limits for Iraqi criteria and standards for drinking water.
