Parasitological and histopathological studies on mugil capito at lake Temsah

This study was carried out on 100 mullet (Mugil capito) collected randomly and seasonally from Lake Temsah, Ismailia city, Egypt.

Body weight, total length and sex were detected.

Both parasitological and histopathological examinations of external and internal organs were carried out.

The maximum growth recorded in winter season with 250g weight and 36.5cm length while the minimum was in spring season 25g weight and 14.5cm length.

The highly parasitic infestations appeared in M.

capito at spring season (84%) where it ranges between microsporidia sp.

on the intestine and encysted metacercariae in several organs such as liver, spleen, gas bladder and musculature.

Summer season was next (80%), showed infestations with only encysted metacercariae in gills and musculature.

The lowest parasitic infestations were at winter season (40%) showed infestation with Dactylogyrus sp., Caligus minimus and encysted metacercariae in gills, kidney and musculature which was unidentified species.

In autumn season (64%), Lironica sp.

and encysted metacercariae in gills, spleen and musculature were recorded.

The highly parasitic infestations appeared in males at summer season (91.67%) followed by females at autumn (90%), but the lowest parasitic infestations appeared in males at winter season (42.86%) and females (36.36%).
