When advertising a product or a service, marketers can use a number of tools, among them scientific and testimonial claims.

This paper investigates the impact of different types of claims (Testimonial/Scientific) using an experimental design to assess the different responses triggered by each claim on the three components of attitude.

The results of the analysis show that the claims only impact the credibility part of the overall attitude.

The study also investigates the difference between samples based on gender, collectivism/individualism and self-efficacy.

The results show that males are more impacted by scientific claims; while females were more impacted by testimonials.

In addition, collectivists are more impacted by testimonial claims than scientific claims.

Finally, the outcome of the study also shows that people with high self-efficacy are significantly impacted by scientific claims.
