الملخص الإنجليزي

Located in the Middle East, the Arab-Israeli conflict has been classified as a regional conflict, but through time and the succession of events, it has acquired an international dimension.

This shift was determined by the longevity of the conflict, its complexity and the variegation of the stakeholders.

Aside from being a conflict that involves different national entities, the conflict also involves religious factions from different religious faiths and this has enlarged the concern about the conflict that extended from a narrow regional space to a larger scale.

Within this frame, Muslims, Christians and Jews all share a concern about the future of the Holy Land and about Jerusalem in particular.

The thesis approaches the Christian and the Muslim perspectives in a comparative style through the exploration of the discourse of the Muslim religious scholar Yusuf Al Qaradawi and two American evangelical Christians, namely Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson, on the Palestinian issue.

The three religious figures use Scripture as a tool to define their world views about the Palestinian issue in an argument and a counter argument style.

Their attachment to the religious texts to validate their positions raises questions about the real nature of the conflict: is it a religious conflict that has been politicized, or a political conflict that has been religionized? The work on this topic is an intriguing and a challenging task, first because it attempts to uncover potential elements that may be manipulating the conflict, and second because of the difficulty to provide a resolution far from the one provided through religious lenses
