Reaction of aryne with aza-Morita-Baylis-Hillman adducts : synthesis of 4-quinolones and N-arylation products

The reaction of aryne with aza-Morita–Baylis–Hillman (aza-MBH) adducts has been studied.

Aryne reacts with aza-MBH adducts through a cascade insertion–cyclization–ene reaction to produce 4-quinolones in 18–44% yields; meanwhile, aza-MBH adducts undergo N-insertion reaction with aryne to afford N-arylation products in 27–77% yields.
