الملخص الإنجليزي
Drinking water in Gaza Strip faces a serious problem of pollution, since, the pollution percentage reaches not less than 92 % in terms of nitrate and chloride.
It is previously known how much Gazans depend mainly on the groundwater for the drinking water as it is the sole and the only means, undoubtedly, polluting the groundwater will straightforwardly to a real environmental catastrophe.
In another hand, wastewater treatment plants in Gaza strip pumped its partially treated water in large amounts to Gaza sea daily, a noticeable contamination to the majority regions of Gaza sea is taken place, and recently, Gaza sea is turning to a too dangerous sea to the extent that one is not allowed to swim in.
Now, Gaza sea, not only, may cause acute skin diseases, but also it is the reason behind the widely-spread bad smell that comes out because of the wastewater which is not treated properly.
Therefore, solutions should be provided by governmental or non-governmental institutions that guarantee turning polluted groundwater to be clean enough for drinking use, and wastewater to be more treated before pumping to the sea.
This article presents a simple project of an Environmental Engineering Student.
The project is small-structure equipment that can use the solar heat and UV radiation to reduce the chemicals concentrations.
The project consists of several steps 1) examining the level of concentration of Chloride of the groundwater and the concentration of BOD and Fecal Coliforms of the wastewater before putting it in the equipment, 2) installing the equipment and running the test by exposing the equipment to the sun for several days, and 3) re-examining the water again for the same parameters in step 1, in addition to measuring the temperature and sun radiation.
The result of the analysis of the water effluent from the solar treatment equipment shows that some of the chemicals in the influent water are reduced to acceptable percentage.
The project will be improved in the future by adding some parts that can increase both the heat and the solar radiation to the polluted water.
