الملخص الإنجليزي

Background : The study investigated the communication skills practiced by school counselors in the Gaza Strip.

Males and females counselor working at the United Nation Relief and Work Agency (UNRWA), Government and Non-Governmental Sector schools were randomly selected to participate in the study.

Methodology : Hundred and fourteen (114) counselors were randomly selected from the schools in the Gaza Strip.

Personal Information Questionnaire and Counseling Communication Skills Questionnaire are used in the study.

The questionnaires measure four areas of skills ; knowledge of the skills, training on these skills, the cognitive ability of counselors to practice these skills and the application of these skills in their practice.

Reliability by Alpha cronbach is 0.975.

Results : The study showed that more than 60% of the participants know the basic counseling skills except confrontation and individual counseling sessions.

As for training skills, less than 25 % of the sample were trained on listening skills, asking questions and discussion.

With regard to their cognitive abilities and the application of these skills were similar.

There was not significant relation between the cognitive ability to apply these skills and their applications into practice.

There is no significant differences between males and females in relation to the four components of the questionnaires.
