الملخص الإنجليزي

This study aimstoinvestigate whether Arab learners of English Language are able to interpret English sentences with null subject, also it aims to show that ellipsis and particularly subject ellipsis is a principled process governed by a set of rules and it has specific constraints in English language.

To achieve the objectives of the study a test of twenty sentences with null subject was designed and applied on forty students form the Department of English Language and Literature atMut'ah University were selected to participate in the test, All are native speakers of Arabic.

This study reveals that subject ellipsis in particular and ellipsis in general is a process governed by rules and constrains.

After applying the test the study shows that the majority of the sample did not realize subject ellipsisand faced problems in interpreting such types of sentences.
