الملخص الإنجليزي

This study aimed at investigating the effect of two teaching strategies (Flashcard and Crossword Puzzle) on first graders‟ learning of English vocabulary in Southern AL-Mazar.

A quasi-experimental design was used two experimental groups were taught by Flashcard and Crossword puzzle while the control group; was taught by the traditional strategy.

Pre and post test was used.

The researcher prepared the learning material based on the vocabulary listed in first grade student‟s textbook.

To determine the validity of the materials, they have been submitted to qualified jury specialists in measurement and evaluation, curriculum and teaching methods.

Appropriate adjustments were done.

Then the strategies were applied on (30) students from outside the sample of the study, to determine the reliability coefficient.

Using KR20 equation, the reliability coefficient was 0.84, which is considered to be acceptable for the purpose of the study.

The strategies were used to teach the vocabularies to the total sample consisting of (75) students at the first grade from the schools of Al khanssa'a and Al Thalthah in southern AL-Mazar Directorate of Education.

To answer the questions of the study, Two Way ANCOVA statistical test was used, which revealed the following results: 1.

There were no statistically significant differences (p <.05) between the groups that can be attributed to either the gender variable or the interaction between the gender and the teaching Strategy.

There were statistically significant differences (p > .05) that can be attributed teaching strategy.

How, Scheffe multiple comparison showed that flash card strategy was better than crossword puzzle and traditional teaching strategies.

The researcher recommends encouraging teachers to use Flashcard and crossword puzzles to enhance vocabulary learning of students.
