الملخص الإنجليزي

The goal of thesis is to study the barriers hindering wide use of solar water heating systems (SWHS) in Jordan and ranking them according to their resistance to necessary solutions for overcoming them.

The basics of solar water heaters and their importance to Jordan are discussed and analyzed.

From previous studies and researches; five rational barriers are concluded.

The concluded barriers are then ranked using the analytical hierarchy process.

Seven expert's opinions representing governmental organizations, manufacturers, consumers were taken to rank barriers based on three criterions: availability of expertise, cost of removal and time of removal.

The results show that top three resisting barriers are high initial cost (0.357), lack of consumer awareness (0.219), and lack of codes and standards (0.162).the extracted weights of barriers from the study could be utilized easily by decision maker to distribute limited budgets between action plans to overcome barriers.

It is strongly recommended to start the action plans necessary to overcome barriers, and establishing an independent organization to expand the spread of the optimal use of solar energy in Jordan
