The Effects of using facebook on English language learning at Zawia faculty of education-Zawia university

Facebook is very popular social networking website.

Most students use the site mainly to connect and socialize with their friends.

They use most of the features like sharing texts, photos and videos into groups and pages.

Most Libyan students are often online using Facebook and communicate very frequently compared to other social networking websites.

Some Facebook features enable students to learn while having fun with their colleagues and friends. The participants of the study were 55 students (53 females and 2 males).

They were all students of English at Zawia Faculty of Education – Zawia University.

They aged between 18 and 26.

The researchers depended on a test and a questionnaire for collecting data.

The findings of this study show that students are integrating Facebook into their studies and achieving benefits through interaction, learning new structures and vocabulary and reading in English.

While using Facebook showed improvement in students‟ levels of English, it is still unclear how Facebook can be used as a didactic-pedagogic domain.

Further research of FB integration into academic purposes may provide deeper insight into these matters.
