الملخص الإنجليزي

This study was conducted at Mu'tah University in 2012 to measure the linguistic efficiency and performance of electronic websites and search engines of the Holy Quran.

It highlighted the linguistic problems faced the users during searching ayas and words of the Holy Quran.

To achieve this purpose, this study attempted to investigate the following hypotheses: 1.

It was notable that the famous quranic search engines provide their users with some kind of linguistic service which in fact needs improvement.

As a result, it is a must to study its efficiency and performance linguistically in order to determine where we can improve and develop current services.

2.

There is some kind of relation between Instructional Technology Theory and this study.

This in turn requires investigating this issue within Instructional Technology and studying it through applied linguistic view.

The population of the study consisted of (200) male and female students majoring in the Arabic Language and Religious Studies at Mu'tah University during the summer session of the academic year 2011-2012.

The sample of the study also consisted of nine expert users of these engines who were selected purposefully.

The study was conducted using a questionnaire and interviews within the domain of the Instructional Technology and depending on SPSS as an analytical tool.

The findings of the study showed that the majority of users received some benefits from these engines, but most of them agreed that these engines did not offer the required data they wanted.

This is due to the morphological structure of Arabic which has similar written forms with different grammatical categories, and to the limited search options offered by the sites which contain literal shared search.

In the light of these results, suitable recommendations were provided.
