The strategic location of Nefta, Tunisian Djerid country western South of Tunis, as a desert gate and naturally protected in the Chotts strait, Gharsa and Djerid, turned it into a fertile oasis to pasture and polarize some doctrines and ritual intellectual currents and secessionist trends during the Middle Ages.

This location encouraged the town to declare its autonomy from the central authority in Ifriqyia lead by village councils and ruling families.

This intellectual dynamism and autonomy tendency made it vulnerable to disciplinary campaigns that influenced on its history and urban scenery.

Due to the total demolition of the medieval city, the bibliographic sources became the only references of the archaeological researches, so that the researchers should achieve a deep prospection within these sources to detect the medieval monuments and urban mutations
