Occurrence of oral and oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma among patients in Basrah city

Oral cancer considcr as the sixth common malignant discasc (it s incidence about third in dcvcloping countries and cighth in devclopcd countrics).

Squamous ccll carcinoma (OSCC) account 95% of ail oral malignant lésions A few studics have been written in Iraq regarding the incidence of oral canccr.The aim of this study was to identify différences in oral and oropharyngcal squamous cell carcinoma patients according to age groups ,gcnder, and location of the tumorin Basrah city.This study includcd 21 patients with oral and oropharyngcal squamous ccll carcinoma w ere clinically diagnoscd and then confirmed by histopathological examination.

Age, gender, as wcll as clinical signs and the site of lésions, were recordcd.Thcrc were 21 new cascs of oral and oropharyngcal squamous cell carcinoma in Basrah from Scptcmbcr 2015 to Dcccmbcr 2016 , 13 in men and 8 in women.

Cancer at ail oral sites alTectcd men more than women.

The Tonguc is the most fréquent site.
