This study was conducted to estimate the pollution of status of some heavy metals in water and sediments of five fish farms use different water sources during April ٢٠١٣ - March ٢٠١٤.
The first farm (G١) used groundwater, the second one (G٢) feed with agriculture drainage water, the third one (G٣) used a mixture of groundwater and Nile water, the fourth farm (G٤) sewage wastewater from Bahr El-Baqar drain after sedimentation and the fifth farm (G٥) filled with water from Lake Manzala.
G١, G٢ and G٣ are located at Abbassa, Sharkia Governorate, while G٤ and G٥ are located at Shader Azzam at the south region of Lake Manzala, Port Said Governorate.
The results showed that, G١ had the highest concentration of heavy metals in water, while G٥ showed the lowest one.
The order of metals concentrations in water was as follows: Fe > Mn > Zn > Cu > Pb > Cd except at G٣ where Cd > Pb.
In sediment, the order was G٥ > G٤> G٣> G٢> G١.
The differences among groups were highly significant for all studied metals in sediments.
Concentrations of all tested metals in water and sediments were within the guidelines values.
From this study, it could be concluded that all water sources in this study do not pose pollution with heavy metals and could be used in fish cultures.
