The paper is a corpus-based research on “X + 家(family)” phrases in modern Chinese language.

All linguistic data are from authorized Modern Chinese corpus and English translation of each example is provided.

A cognitive linguistic perspective with a focus on metonymy and metaphor will be applied to analyze how Chinese people conceptualize the concept of “family” and what roles the concept of “family” plays in the construction and interpretation of Chinese “family” related phrases.
