الملخص EN

The quantities of solid wastes generated in Egypt are huge and a large part of them remains uncollected .

The accumulation of solid wastes on the streets causes severe harm to tlie health and environment.

There are several methods of disposing of the solid wastes.

Two of the conventional techniques of solid waste management applied are incineration and landfill. Those two methods have serious negative impacts on the envi-"onment health and the economy.

These disudvantages are outlined as opposed to the benefits of recycling which is a more contemporary technique of solid waste management, eventually the three methods are evaluated.

As a result the paper reaches the conclusion that recycling is preferred to uicineration and landfill.

Finally the obstacles that could hinder recycling are examined, Ilecy-cling in Egypt is very limited and requires intensive efforts.
