The representation of female dancers in Islamic art : a descriptive analytical study

Scenes of musicians and dancers are frequently represented in Islamic art.

While those of musicians have been examined by previous studies, the present study focuses on the scenes of dancers, particularly female ones.

The aim of the study is to reveal how dancers were represented in Islamic art and to highlight the variety of representations throughout ages.

The study is divided into two parts: the first is descriptive and the second is analytical.

The first part sheds light on the standards of female beauty in historical Islamic times.

It also provides information about the traditions and customs of women’s clothes, headdresses and hairstyles.
