Mosul municipality is one of the oldest municipalities of Iraq, and it had opened almost a century and a half ago.

In services sector, the municipality rendered a lot of municipal services, notably during the Ottoman era, and it contributed as much as possible in keeping the city clean, and providing services to the inhabitants.

After the establishing of the Kingdom of Iraq (1921-1958) and forming the national government, this municipality had developed more and more.

But it remained suffering from lack of resources and funds, until after the establishing of the republican régime.
