الملخص الإنجليزي

The main objective of this study was to investigate economics of fish production in Jordan.

The study included 40 fish farms.

Cost and production functions were determined.

Also, the financial performance of the investigated farms was covered in this study.

The results of the study showed that the fish production activity in Jordan is primarily conducted by males.

The male breeders in this activity were 97.5% of the sample.

The scientific level and the average work experience of the surveyed fish producers qualify them to understand the necessities of this activity.

This issue has the greatest impact on the success of their work in raising fish properly.

The study also showed that the average size of production of studied fish farms was less than the optimal size of production by 3.27 tons, which means that these farms are close to the optimal size of production.

The conclusion is that there is a shortage in the full use of resources and inefficiency of exploiting them optimally.

Based on the values of the net present value, the internal rate of return and the benefit-to-cost ratio adopted in this study to determine the financial viability of fish production activity, this activity is financially feasible in accordance with the three criteria combined.

The study recommended the need to promote the involvement of females in fish production activities by developing educational plans that can contribute to this field.

The study also recommends encouraging public and private investments in this field of fish production, providing the necessary facilities to ensure the success of this investment, providing special incentives for this activity because of the need for such activity in the light of the failure of local production to meet the needs of the market of this product significantly.

The study also recommends holding of seminars and workshops on the development of fish breeding methods and the allocation of field days for fish farmers to guide them on modern methods of fish breeding as well as the best methods to raise the economic efficiency of fish farming, and enable farmers to achieve optimal volumes that achieve efficiency by increasing the volume of production to the optimum size.
