الملخص EN

Reading is one of the most important activities in the learning process.

Without reading learner s would notbe able to acquire knowledge that is fundamental to their intellectual growth.Reading comprehension is the heart and goal of reading, since the purpose of all reading is to gather meaning from the printed page.

If a student reads words in a passage without getting their meaning, one would hesitate to call that reading.

Students have lots of problems with reading a text; they are more concerned with getting the correct answer than with more important process of how to get the answer.Levine et al.

(2000:1) state: ‘‘The ability to read academic texts is considered one of the most important skills that university students of English as a Second Language (ESL) and English as a Foreign Language (EFL) need to acquire’’.

In the past years, there have been considerable interest in promoting reading as a significant means of language development for second and foreign language learners (Day and Bamford, 1998:16).Krashen, 1995:27) believes that L1 acquisition occurs naturally,while SLA, in most cases, occurs under artificial conditions.
