Benchmarking tools for good governance in Arab universities

Benchmarking has become an invaluable tool for institutional reform in Arab universities.

Benchmarking is in fact viewed as an important instrument in transforming Arab universities to become an efficient and effective device in fulfilling Arab aspirations especially producing employable graduates and promoting knowledge and innovation-based economies.

Several initiatives have been launched to scope the landscape of current governance practices in Arab higher education and efforts have been exerted to overcome challenges, identify strengths, weaknesses and areas for reform.

The magnitude and impact of Arab, European and international projects on measuring governance effectiveness and introducing a benchmarking culture in Arab universities can already be felt and seen as demonstrated by the examples presented.
