Algeria is slowly heading towards the diversity of its economy and the assurance of a variety of sources of wealth to get rid of dependence on hydrocarbons.

This will lead the national economy to open its markets and enter the stage of the real market economy at full competition between the various actors and products, in this sense the different local products, in particular agricultural products threatened to " Competition by products of high competitiveness of multinational companies, which leads us to search ways to ensure an acceptable level of competitiveness of Algerian agricultural products on the national and international level.

The objective of this study is to clarify how Algeria can valorise, protect and increase the competitiveness of its agricultural products through geographical identifications (GI) and appellation of origin (AO).

And after doing the projection study on the Algerian date "Deglet Nour", this study concluded that there is a great chance to valorise this product by Protected Geographical Identification (PGI) through its excellent characteristics and differentiation, provided that a strategy is devised that will eliminate the various obstacles such as the lack of quality conditions in production, packaging and marketing
