This study aims to analyze the role of the economic policies, which adopted by Algeria as one of the rentier economies.

To achieving the sustainable development.

Through study the public investment programs during the period 2000 – 2014.

By focusing on an important topic within this context.

Which is, how Achieving the objective of economic diversification.

Using the Herfindahl-Hirschman coefficient.

And the diagnosis of the most important indicators of sustainable development (economic, social and environmental).

To estimate and measuring the diversification degree, and analyze the structural transformation of the Algerian economy structure in the framework of sustainability controls.

The estimating results of the Herfindahl-Hirshman diversification Composite Index, revealed the weakness of economic diversification in Algeria over the period 2000 -2014, which their value sandwiched between 0.40 and 0.50.

Where a composite diversification index is calculated as the mean of five simple Herfindahl- Hirshman coefficient.

The result of study revealed that the average of Herfindahl-Hirshman index for fixed capital formation variable, in the study period, was between 0.23 and 0.36.

While the value of the index for government revenues was between 0.45 and 0.70.

for exports within the hydrocarbon sector.

the value of the index has averaged 0.95 over the study period; and the diversity of imports index estimated between 0.11 and 0.22.

Which indicates the presence of diversity in imports (especially for consumer goods and capital to the outside) and weak local production structure.

Therefore, the failure of economic policy adopted in Algeria during the period 2000 and 2014, to diversify the economic base.

Leads to stands the shift towards sustainable development in front of the challenge of the subordination of the oil sector of the Algerian economy, which explains the weakness of sustainability indicators.
