sierra Leone is among the west African countries which witnessed a brutal civil war that broke out in1991and marked the beginning of mayhem for the country.

the conflict in sierra Leone was caused by economic factors, mainly greed.

violence against women and children became the norm during the decade long civil war.

this motivated women to play a vital role in conflict resolution and the establishment of a lasting peace.

the target of this article is to examine the role of women in conflict management and resolution, using sierra Leone as a case study.

it argues that despite the traditional challenges women faced they were able to contribute significantly to the conclusion of the 11-year civil war in sierra Leone, and have since earned a position of respect in society that has given them a larger role to play in government, politics and the private sector.
