Today, systems perspective and the vision of cultures as interdependent and unified entities characterized by a cultural specificity, social practices, beliefs and kinship structures, is receding.

This has confronted the theory of culture with a dilemma in how to expain cultural reproduction, power, cultural diversity, contradiction, inconsistency and change.

The theory of culture seemed incapable of explaining these phenomena.

In order to get out of this impasse there was a need to rethink the cultural meanings, and the researchers and theorists went to focus on the internal logic of societies and cultures, practice, action, contradiction, power, inequality, hegemony, and others.

Today, Theoretical perspectives converge together, and traditional theories are reproduced.
