Quality assurance has seen a differential rate of implementation within higher education institutions.
This research will investigate the leadership characteristics mostly associated with the positive responsiveness to the implementation of quality assurance.
Thus, it will answer the question what do leaders in responsive universities do differently.
As the sample is small and not normally distributed, The Mann Whitney U statistics was used to test the difference between two groups of business schools: those that have implemented quality assurance and those that have not.
The results of the research suggest that leadership characteristics, namely communication, training and the allocation of financial resources, are significantly associated with the implementation of quality assurance.
The study has significant implications for higher education institutions and policy makers in terms of needed incentives to push the process forward.
