الملخص الإنجليزي

This study focuses on the main difficulties that Palestinian Deaf learners face in learning English reading comprehension skills in Gaza secondary schools.

It also highlights the various factors behind these difficulties and provides relevant suggestions to overcome them.

A mixed method research design, quantitative and qualitative research, was adopted.

To identify these difficulties and their related solutions, three data collection tools were used: a questionnaire, Reading Comprehension Test, and semi-structured interview.

The participants of the study were Tawjihi (Grade 12) EFL Deaf learners.

Four EFL teachers were interviewed to explore their suggestions to overcome the identified difficulties.

The study revealed that the most difficult reading comprehension skills are scanning, identifying the main idea, then making predictions about the text.

The study attributed reading comprehension difficulties to various reasons related to learners, teachers, assessment process, and classroom environment.

In light of the difficulties identified, some pedagogical implications on how to help Deaf students learn English reading skills effectively are provided at the end of this study
