The purpose of this study was to characterize the physical behaviour of Dura asphalt modified by styrene-butadiene-styrene (SBS)co-polymer.

The polymer modified asphalt (PMA) was produced by mixing a 40/60 penetration grade Dura (base) asphalt withdifferent ratios of the copolymers.

The resultsthus exhibited that the modification of the authentic asphalt by SBS had great impact on the physical properties of the asphalt.

Furthermore, the high temperature performance of the original asphalt was enhancedsuch that the morphology observed by microscope examinationrevealed the compatibility between SBS and asphalt.

Additionally, the storage stability of the binder was significantly improved in comparison with Dura asphalt.
