In this study, Hilbert-Huang transform (HHT) is applied for three phase to ground fault detection and faulty phases identification in a six-phase transmission line.

The proposed single-ended fault detection technique has been extensively tested using the MATLAB/SIMULINK test system of a six-phase transmission line.

The six-phase fault currents measured at only one side of the six-phase transmission line are used as input to HHT.

HHT is used for processing of the six-phase current signals.

Viability of the HHT-based fault detection and faulty phase identification technique is tested under an extensive variation of fault parameters such as fault location, fault type, fault resistance, ground resistance, and fault inception time.

Simulation results exemplify that the proposed technique efficiently detects the three phase to ground fault and identifies the faulty phases perfectly.
