The following essay deals with the state of the border town of Bordj Badji Mokhtar as a modern urban complex with rapid demographic growth, resulting from the stability of the nomadic population, thanks to the availability of security and programs for the development of the South through the local development plans of Algeria.

The city is witnessing a significant dynamic urbanization in the recent years, based on cross-border trade and pastoralism in its economy.

This growth of population caused a random expansion of chaotic neighborhoods due to the delay in the completion of rural and social housing projects on the one hand and the influx of illegal immigrants from the other.

Trade and administrative functions are the most important factors in attracting the inhabitants of northern cities and that is due also to the poor educational level during the 1990s
